Military General Service 1793-1814, two clasps, Roleia, Vimiera (C.H. Smith, Capt. 40th Foot.), good very fine Estimate £ 1,600-1,800 Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Hervey Smith, commissioned Ensign 40th Foot, 1805; served with the regiment in South America, 1807; received a head wound before Monte Video, received three wounds and was taken prisoner at the storming of Buenos Aires; Captain 1808; he commanded the Light Company in the Peninsula, during the campaigns of 1808-09, and was severely wounded in the thigh at the battle of Vimiera; advanced Lieutenant-Colonel 1838.
