Julius Caesar (49-48 BC), AR Denarius, mint moving with Caesar in Gaul, elephant right trampling on serpent, caesar in ex, rev. ladle, sprinkler, axe and priest´s hat (Cr. 443/1; Syd. 1006), some reverse weakness, otherwise an attractive very fine Estimate £ 200-300 These coins were struck to pay for Caesar´´s military exploits. He alone took responsibility for the issue as it was not authorised by the Senate.
