Andrea Briosco, called Riccio (c.1470-1532) Bacchanalian Scene, trapezoidal bronze plaquette, max. 45mm. x 108mm., an old cast, light brown patina In the centre a putto attempts to ride a goat which is being led from left to right by other putti. At the left a satyr, with a putto on his back, is suckled by the goat. At the right a satyr plays the lute and a putto plays the syrinx. The trimmed sides are evidence that this plaquette once formed one of the three sides of a sand box. Complete sand boxes with The Triumph of Silenus and Allegory of Fate are in Berlin (376), and the Kress collection (482), and another was in the Pourtalès collection (1609).
