British Guiana Early letters and Handstamps Demerara 1783 (23 Aug.) entire letter from Essequibo, during the period French Occupation, to Mr. John Daly in Liege, sent c/o Mr. William Mathison in London and marked "p Packet", transhipped in Barbados and showing, on reverse, superb black wax seal of the sender, equally fine "barba/does" h.s. alongside London Bishopmark for "30/oc" and showing, on face panel, manuscript "2" and "london/ship lre" h.s.; some light stains in places though believed to be the earliest recorded letter from Essequibo.
