The Swedish fleet, 34 ships under Admiral Henrik Norn, outgunned the smaller Danish fleet of 27 ships under Admiral Niels Juel, but in calm conditions and restricted room, they failed to take advantage of their superiority. The Danes did not loose a single vessel while the Swedes lost eight warships and several smaller ships. There is a gold example of this medal in the Royal Coin Cabinet, Copenhagen.
