Stanislav Kerbedz, 1889, bronze medal by L. Steinman, bust left, signed l. steinman below truncation, rev. six line inscription in wreath, 84mm. (Diakov 1036; Smirnov 972), some spots of verdigris, good very fine Estimate £ 100-200 Stanislav Valerianovich Kerbedz (1810-99), Actual Privy Councellor (1881), Corresponding Member (1851) and Honorary Member (1858) of the St Petersburg Academy of Science, and Honorary Member (1850) of the St Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts; designed and directed the construction of the Lieutenant Schmidt Bridge, the first fixed bridge over the Bolshaya Neva; from 1852 directed the construction of the St Petersburg to Warsaw Railway; and from 1856-57 the St Petersburg to Peterhof Railway; from 1887 was head of the Technical Council at the Ministry of Railways; retired 1891. The legend on the reverse of this medal reads ´To Commemorate 60 years of service to the State in the fields of Science and Art 1829-1889, from his Disciples, Colleagues and Admirers.´
