Corps (Backworth) 22227 Private Charles Finlay Hill, M.M., born Backworth, Northumberland; enlisted as 6565 Private, Northumberland Fusiliers; served in France from 9.9.1915; transferred 62nd Company, Machine Gun Corps as part of 21st Division, 4.3.1916, and won his Military Medal for Battle of Morval, Somme, September 1916; killed in action, 27.9.1916, and commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
