Corps. 21490 Company Sergeant Major Henry Phillips, M.M., enlisted as 5094 Private, 4th Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment; advanced to Sergeant and served abroad with the Regiment in Gallipoli from 4.4.1915; in the rear-guard at the evacuation as part of a command of ´picked men of "X" and "Y" Companies with a machine-gun under Sergeant Phillips´ (Regimental History refers); transferred to 88th Company, Machine Gun Corps on its formation as part of 29th Division, 21.2.1916, and won his Military Medal for Battle of Transloy Ridges, Somme, October 1916.
