A Pair of double-barrelled Pistols A cased pair of over-and-under double-barrelled percussion belt-pistols, the barrels signed BROWN & COOPER 36 PICCADILLY, LONDON, and bearing London proof-marks, finely-chequered butts with butt-traps for percussion caps, metal parts expertly re-finished, with various accessories, including a good two-way powder-flask, in a well-fitting case (lacking key) by Manton & Co, Calcutta.
See illustration
Notes:
Brown & Cooper traded at 36 Piccadilly from 1844-46.
The original case was presumably lost or destroyed in India, and a replacement produced by Manton in Calcutta. Howard L Blackmore´s "Dictionary of London Gunsmiths 1350-1850" published Oxford 1956, contains a reference on page 62 to what may well be this actual pair of pistols.
