South Africa 1834-53 (Lieut. D.R. Barnes. 45th Regt), light contact marks, minor edge bruise, therefore very fine Estimate £ 540-580 Major Drury Richard Barnes, commissioned Ensign 45th Foot, 1848; Lieutenant 1851; served during the 3rd Kaffir War in a Local Battalion and was present in several engagements, accompanied the expedition into the Tambookie country, also served with two companies of 45th in mixed force including Royal Artillery, Cape Mounted Rifles and 900 Zulus sent from Natal in aid of the British Resident in the Orange River Sovereignty, August 1851-July 1852; advanced Major 1870.
