Hill, born Salop, Shropshire, 1803; commissioned Ensign 3rd Foot, 1817; served as part of the Army of Occupation in France, July 1818-November 1818; transferred Lieutenant 87th Foot, 1823; served with the regiment in Burma under Lieutenant-General Sir Archibald Campbell, December 1825-May 1826, advanced from Prome and was present at the attack upon the outpost at Tandivaga; transferred Captain 25th Foot, 1826; advance Major, 69th Foot, 1835; Lieutenant-Colonel, 1846.
