Vatican, bronze medals (7), of Eugenius IV (2), Nicholas V, Calixtus III, Pius II, Paul II, and Alexander VII Chigi (1655-1667), anno VI, rev, view of St Ivo alle Sapienza, (Bartolotti 660; Lincoln 1203), all 19th century, the last from the dies by Gaspare Morone, all extremely fine (7) Estimate £ 150-250 The small church of St Ivo, considered a masterpiece of Baroque architecture, was designed by Francesco Borromini and completed in 1660. The architect had to incorporate the church into a confined space in the corner of the courtyard (designed by Giacomo della Porta), of palace of the Sapienza, the old University of Rome. The façade, embraced by the wings of the Palazzo, is clearly depicted on the medal. The Chigi family arms are prominently dispalyed above the doorway.
