An Engraved Brass Plaque A brass plaque, 90mm x 50mm, inscribed ´R.S. Bond Esq. 12th Royal Lancers´, probably from Captain Bond´s headdress box or trunk Estimate £ 80-100 Captain Ralph Shelton Bond, Commissioned Cornet, by purchase, 11.7.1851; Promoted Lieutenant, 29.7.1853; Captain, by purchase, 29.7.1856; transferred 34th Foot and placed on half pay, 10.11.1856. Captain Bond was one of the few survivors of the Birkenhead disaster, and afterwards served in the 3rd Kaffir War, and was present as the action of Berea. He qualified for the South Africa 1834-53 Medal.
