A Great War 1916 ´Battle of Ginchy´ Somme Casualty Pair to Lieutenant H.A.H. Bren, Leinster Regiment British War and Victory Medals (Lieut. H.A.H. Bren.), extremely fine, with Great War Bronze Memorial Plaque ´Henry Alfred Hogarth Bren´, all mounted with a regimental cap badge in a glass-fronted wooden frame, with photographic image of recipient (2) Estimate £ 180-220 Lieutenant Henry Alfred Hogarth Bren, born 1892; educated at Cheltenham Grammar School, 1905-11 and won a scholarship to Oriel College, Oxford, ´soon after the outbreak of the War, he enlisted in the Middlesex Regiment, and was commissioned from the ranks into the 4th Battalion Leinster Regiment. Promoted Lieutenant in February 1915, he was attached to the 7th Battalion and went to France in December 1915 where he was killed in action at the battle of Ginchy, on the Somme, on the 9th September 1916. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.´ (Leaving All That Was Dear, refers). The 7th Battalion Leinsters were relieved on the 10th September, with a strength of just 15 officers and 289 other ranks.
