Three: Private J.W. Lenton, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment 1914-15 Star (17935 Pte. J.W. Lenton, Notts. & Derby.R.); British War and Victory Medals (17935 Pte. J.W. Lenton. Notts. & Derby. R.), good very fine or better, with Great War Bronze Memorial Plaque ´John William Lenton´ (3) Estimate £ 240-280 17935 Private John William Lenton, born Ilkeston, Derbyshire; served during the Great War with "A" Company 9th Battalion Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment and was killed in action in the Gallipoli Theatre of War, 9.8.1915, when the 9th Battalion were involved in an ´Attack on Ismail on Ismail Oglu Tepe. Advanced - "B" and "C" Companies in front, "A" in support, "D" in reserve. Battalion records note that by 8 am a satisfactory line of defence had been taken up at a cost of 8 officers, 150 other ranks. Enemy counter attacked about 3pm forcing gap between "A" and "B" Companies. By this time just 2 officers remained fit for duty. Commanding Officer, Lieutenant-Colonel L.A. Bosanquet, led support attack and succeeded in driving enemy back.... Casualties among officers - 7 killed, 11 wounded, 1 missing. Strength of other ranks reduced to about 300.´ (British Regiments at Gallipoli refers); Lenton is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Turkey.
