An Officer´s Mess Dress of the Fife Light Horse A good scarlet jacket, by J Christie & Son, Edinburgh, with blue facings and piping, edged all round, and on the cuffs, with 1in. silver lace of scalloped bias-and-stand pattern, white metal studs to front, plain scallop-edged buttons above cuffs, the tailor´s label inscribed Col Anstruther-Thomson (lacking shoulder-cords); companion blue waistcoat, edged with lace as on the jacket, the pockets edged with silver Russia braid forming an eye at each end; and another mess jacket, by Hawkes, of the same pattern as the first item but with all lace and studs, shoulder-cords and cuffs removed (name on tailor´s label illegible) (3) See illustration of first two items Note: The mess dress of the Fife Light Horse followed that of the 16th Lancers in every detail, including lace-pattern, apart from the colour of their lace and studs.
