R.N.) d) British War and Victory Medals (196467 F.C. Pellow. A.B. R.N.), good very fine or better, with Great War Bronze Memorial Plaque, ´Frederick Charles Pellow´ (6) Estimate £ 1,200-1,400 D.S.M. London Gazette 15.5.1916 Able Seaman Frederick Charles Pellow, O.N. 196467 (R.F.R., Dev. B/1919). ´In recognition of services of Petty Officers and men of the Eastern Mediterranean Squadron during the evacuation of the Gallipoli Peninsula in December 1915-January 1916.´ Able Seaman Frederick Charles Pellow, D.S.M., born 1880, Wolborough; joined Royal Navy as Boy 2nd Class, 1897; Ordinary Seaman 1898; service during the Great War included in the Prince George, 2.8.1914-19.10.1915; the Europa (First Class Cruiser), 20.10.1915-31.12.1915 and H.M.S. Caesar 12.4.1918-3.10.1918, on the latter date Pellow suffered a fractured skull on board, his papers show, ´these injuries on board - no blame attributable to anyone´, he was taken to a Hospital in Malta where he subsequently died, he is buried in Malta (Capuccini) Naval Cemetery.
