Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment, 1.1.1910, aged 14; transferred Welsh Guards 3.4.1916; Lance Corporal 1.12.1916; served during the Great War with the regiment in the French Theatre of War, 5.10.1916-17.10.1918 (twice wounded 4.8.1917 and 11.10.1918 respectively); discharged 24.2.1920.
