A Great War ´Somme 1916´ Casualty Group of Three to Guardsman W. Simpson, Welsh Guards 1914-15 Star (267 Pte. W. Simpson. W. Gds.); British War and Victory Medals (267 Pte. W. Simpson. W. Gds.). extremely fine, with Great War Bronze Memorial Plaque, ´William Simpson´, in original card envelope of issue (3) Estimate £ 750-800 267 Guardsman William Simpson, born Burnley, Lancashire; served for four years with the 4th Battalion Loyal North Lancs prior to his Great War service; enlisted Grenadier Guards, 2.9.1914; transferred Welsh Guards, 27.2.1915; Corporal 8.5.1916; served during the Great War with the regiment in the French Theatre of War, 17.8.1915-10.8.1916; Simpson was killed in action on the latter date when the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards took over the line between Beaumont-Hamel and Serre, Somme, and is buried in Bertancourt Military Cemetery, France.
