An Interesting and Unusual Fine Quality Later Officer´s Indulgence ´Die Variety´ Ghuznee Medal to Surgeon-Major R.H.A. Hunter, 2nd Foot Ghuznee 1839 (R.H.A. Hunter, Asst. Surgeon. 2nd. or Queen´s Royal Regt.), reverse engraved in small serif capitals, with knurled obverse and reverse rims and gold screw fitting double ring straight bar suspension, nearly extremely fine and this type rarely seen Estimate £ 200-300 Surgeon-Major Robert Hope Alston Hunter, born Dumfriesshire, July 1805; Hospital Assistant, Staff, January 1827; Assistant-Surgeon, 2nd Foot, June 1830; served in Medical charge of the Belgaum Field Forces in Canara, 1837; served with the Queen´s in Afghanistan and Baluchistan, 1838-39, including the storm and capture of Ghuznee, 23.7.1839, and Khelat, 13.11.1839; Surgeon, Staff, July 1841; Surgeon, 57th Foot, January 1843; Surgeon-Major, July 1847; retired, February 1852; Surgeon-Major Hunter died June 1867.
