Military General Service 1793-1814, two clasps, Vimiera, Fuentes d´Onor (Thos. Batt, Asst. Surgn. 2nd. Foot.), nearly extremely fine Estimate £ 1,300-1,400 Surgeon Thomas Batt, born 1782, entered the service December 1805 and accompanied the Expedition to Hanover that year; became Assistant Surgeon 99th Foot, April 1806; to the 44th Foot, May 1806; and to the 67th Foot, October 1806; transferred to the 2nd Foot, November 1807, and was present in the Peninsula 1808-09, including the battle of Vimiera, the retreat to Corunna, and the passage of the Douro, a very brilliant exploit, although no clasp was given for it (his claim for the Talavera clasp was disallowed due to illness); near Orense his servant disappeared with his mule and all his baggage, and was never heard of again (Regimental records refer); accompanied the Expedition to Walcheren 1809, and returned to the Peninsula 1811-12 and was present at the Battle of Fuentes d´Onor; was employed with the 5th Royal Veteran Battalion, June 1812, and as Surgeon, 2nd Battalion, 7th Foot, July 1813; placed on half-pay February 1816; Surgeon Batt died at Brecon 13.1.1848. Surgeon Batt was awarded one of only two Fuentes d´Onor clasps to the 2nd Foot.
