Military General Service 1793-1814, one clasp, Egypt (D. Wainwright, Lieut. & Adjt. 2nd. Foot), edge bruising, slack suspension, nearly very fine Estimate £ 1,600-1,800 Lieutenant David Wainwright, when a Sergeant of his Regiment, he was present in H.M.S. Russell at the Fleet action of the ´Glorious First of June´ where the 2nd, 25th, and 29th Foot served with the Fleet as Marines; the Russell took possession of the Impetueux, one of the seven French line-of-battle ships taken. He was slightly wounded in the action, claimed, and received the Naval General Service 1793-1840 Medal with one clasp 1st June 1794 (which was signed for by ´James Lunn 27.2.1849´). He engaged with the French brigands at Vaughlin, Martinique, 1795; and served at the capture of Trinidad, 1797; appointed Ensign and Adjutant, 2nd Foot, April 1797; assisted in the suppression of the Irish rebellion, including the action at Fowks Mill, liberation of Lord Kingsborough and other Protestants at Wexford, and taking of the French at Ballinamuck, 1798; embarked for the Helder, present at the first landing 27.10.1799, the actions on the 19th September, the 2nd, and the 6th October, where he was slightly wounded, and the retreat from Egmont-op-Zee; became a Lieutenant by purchase, April 1800 and served in Egypt 1801, including the action at the landing, siege and capture of Fort Aboukir, battle of Alexandria, reduction of Rosetta and Fort St. Julian, action at Rahmania, and the surrender of Cairo and Alexandria; appointed Paymaster 1803.
