France, Diane de Poitiers, silver portrait medal, unsigned, 53mm., bust left wearing lace cap, AE 26 below, rev. Diana, holding bow, subdues Cupid (Jones 232; TN.XLVI, I, pl.46 no.I), a later medal stamped ARGENT on the edge, nearly extremely fine, toned Estimate £ 200-300Diane de Poitiers (1499-1566), Duchess of Valentinois, was the mistress of Henri II. The earliest examples of this medal were probably produced in the 17th century. Other similar medals were produced commemorating Charles II and Anne de Montmorency as well as other medals of Diane with this portrait but with different reverses.
