A Chief Constable´s Uniform A very complete set of uniform, as described in Dress Worn at Court 1937, comprising: a good cocked hat of military style, by J. COMPTON SONS & WEBB, OLD FORT ROAD, LONDON E 3, edged with black bayleaf lace, black silk cockade, black velvet loop bearing a double row of narrow silver cord and secured by a frosted silver button (as DWAC No 31), silver bullion tassels, good white internal headband and pleated silk lining bearing manufacturer´s name, in its fitted tin; together with a tin trunk, containing items of uniform as follows: a Full Dress tunic, with black velvet facings, silver buttons (one missing) and silver bayleaf lace edging to collar, gauntlet cuffs and skirt-slashes, with fine and massive plaited black and silver shoulder-cords of General Officer´s style (lacking badges of rank); a blue cap, with black bayleaf band and double row of silver oakleaf embroidery to peak (badge removed); a pair of overalls, with foot-straps and 2in. black bayleaf lace stripes; a pair of plated swan-necked box-spurs; a black patent leather sword-belt and sword-slings, with chromed fittings, the rectangular clasp mounted with a button-sized device inscribed PORTSMOUTH CITY POLICE; a black leather Sam Browne belt with brace and sword-frog, all with white metal fittings; a double-breasted blue cloth greatcoat, of military style, with black velvet collar (detachable shoulder-straps now missing); three blue service dress tunics with white metal buttons, black velvet tabs with silver oakleaf embroidery, and embroidered badges of rank (one with crossed batons, crown and star, the other two with crossed batons and crown only); two pairs of plain blue trousers; a double-breasted waterproof coat with black plastic buttons and black velvet tabs; two pairs of good white leather gloves; and sundry minor items (lot) See illustration of tunics etc …. and hat on Page… Estimate £ 300-400
