A Late Great War 1918 Capture of Lille M.M. Group of Three to Private W.H. Jeffries, Durham Light Infantry Military Medal, G.V.R. (301410 Pte. W.H. Jefferies (sic). 6/Durh:L.I.); British War and Victory Medals (301410 Pte. W.H. Jefferis (sic). Durh. L.I.), edge bruise to M.M., otherwise good very fine (3) Estimate £ 260-300M.M. London Gazette 11.2.1919 Durham Light Infantry, 301410 Pte. Jefferies (sic), W.H., 6th Bn. (Fordingbridge). 301410 Private William H. Jeffries, M.M., Enlisted 2/6th Garrison Battalion, Durham Light Infantry; landed at Calais 6.5.1918 as part of the 177th Brigade, 59th Division; entered the front line on 25.7.1918 and took part in its first attack in the Aubrey Ridge - Laventine area 30.9.1918; attacked and took Wez-Macquart and the Premesques Ridge 10.10.1918, prior to the final capture of Lille 18.10.1918. It was for these actions that he won the Military Medal. After the War Private Jeffries worked at the Victoria Nurseries in Fordingbridge; he died in 1981.
