An Officer´s Pouchbelt possibly of Indian Cavalry A wide black leather belt, faced with 21/2in. silver "Austrian" pattern lace with black silk central stripe, fine Light Cavalry pattern buckle, tip and slide HM B´ham 1874, the belt now fitted with white metal prickers and chains, the plate and chain-boss with crudely-engraved decoration not matching that of the buckle etc, and bearing a scroll, probably of Indian manufacture, inscribed SERINGAPATAM See illustration Note: Among the cavalry regiments, the battle-honour Seringapatam (1799) was unique to the Madras army. It was carried by the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Regiments, the 2nd being the only one of these units to have no other battle-honours. However none of the Madras regiments wore the black facings suggested by the stripe in the lace of this belt. Estimate £ 100-150
