A Cavalry Headdress-plate A bombé rayed brass plate of good quality two-piece construction, possibly for a fur cap of the Royal Scots Greys, bearing the 1816-37 Royal Arms above the battle-honour WATERLOO, screw-post fixings to reverse See illustration Note: The style of the frontal plate is very similar to that of the 1817 "Roman" pattern Heavy Cavalry helmet, but the backing-plate, with its pointed rays, is entirely different from that of the Roman helmet. This, and the battle honour "Waterloo" strongly suggests an association with the Greys. Estimate £ 200-300
