Queen´s South Africa 1899-1902, four clasps, Defence of Ladysmith, Transvaal, Laing´s Nek, Belfast (4552 Pte. W. Stanley, Liverpool Regt.), minor edge bruising, therefore good very fine Estimate £ 140-1804552 Private W. Stanley, served with the 1st Battalion, Liverpool Regiment; taken Prisoner of War at Geluk 23.8.1900; later released. On 23.8.1900, General Sir R.H. Buller´s column was strongly opposed as it arrived to bivouac on the farm at Geluk. During the action ´C´ and ´E´ Companies of the 1st King´s (Liverpool) Regiment were almost cut off and suffered severe casualties. For gallantry during this action Private W. Heaton, King´s Regiment was awarded the Victoria Cross.
