Foot.), nearly extremely fine Estimate £ 1,600-1,800Lieutenant General William Augustus Johnson (1777-1863), born Kenilworth, Warwickshire; Commissioned Ensign, 32nd (Cornwall) Regiment of Foot 18.9.1793; Lieutenant 2.1.1794; Captain 23.4.1794; Major 2.4.1803; Served in Ireland 1806, before departing for the Peninsular War; Lieutenant Colonel 17.5.1810; Colonel 12.8.1819; Major General 22.7.1830; Lieutenant General 23.11.1841. Lieutenant General Johnson inherited the Witham estate in Lincolnshire from his uncle 8.2.1814, and left active duty on half-pay to run the estate. He stood many times for Parliament, and served as MP for Boston 1820-26, and Oldham 1837-47. He was a Magistrate, Deputy Lieutenant of Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire, and Sheriff of Lincoln in 1839.
