Regt.), suspension re-affixed, edge bruising; 1939-1945 Star; Burma Star; War Medal; India Service Medal 1939-45, nearly very fine (5) Estimate £ 550-650M.M. London Gazette 24.5.1945 22198 Sepoy Gopala Ram 1/10th Baluch Regiment, The Recommendation states, ´On 24th February 1945 No 22198 Sepoy Gopala Ram was one of a section ordered to capture an enemy position near Mingan village (map Re 848806, 1.25,000, pr/7080). As the section advanced on the position Sepoy Gopala Ram spotted a Jap sniper up a tree, and one hiding in a bush. He shot and killed both of them. Immediately after this, the section came under heavy fire from the position, but without hesitation this sepoy rushed forward, lobbed in a grenade killing two Japs. The remainder fled across the railway line to another defended position. The section then continued to advance, but came under very heavy fire on reaching the railway. Sepoy Gopala Ram worked his way round the flank to within ten yards of the enemy´s position, then with complete disregard for his own safety, rushed forward throwing grenades and firing his rifle. By this determined attack he killed six Japs and captured the position by himself. The fearlessness, offensive spirit, determination and presence of mind of this sepoy over a prolonged period can hardly be excelled and was an inspiration to all.´ Originally recommended for an Immediate I.D.S.M.
