An Early, 1914 Great War D.C.M. Group of Four to Company Sergeant Major H. Pike, King´s Own Scottish Borderers Distinguished Conduct Medal, G.V.R. (5263 A.C.S. Mjr: H. Pike. 2/K.O.S.B.); 1914 Star (5263 Sjt. H. Pike. K.O. Sco: Bord.); British War and Victory Medals, small corroded mark to VM obverse (5263 Sjt. H. Pike. K.O. Sco. Bord.), good very fine or better (4) Estimate £ 1,800-2,200D.C.M. London Gazette 1.4.1915 5263 A/CSM H. Pike 2nd Battalion King´s Own Scottish Borderers, ´For consistent gallantry in action, especially at Cuinchy on the 12th October 1914. After all the Officers of his company had been killed or wounded in the attack, and the casualties numerous, he took command and succeeded in holding the captured ground.´ 5623 Company Sergeant Major Harry Pike, D.C.M., born Reading, Berkshire; served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion King´s Own Scottish Borderers, he died on the Western Front 4.2.1917, and is buried in the Villers-Bocage Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France.
