London Gazette 5.3.1946 148804 Flight Lieutenant Alfred Arthur Morley D.F.M. R.A.F.V.R. No. 357 Squadron The Recommendation, dated 11.9.1945, states: ´F/Lt Morley has carried out a very large number of Operational hours and has completed 80 Sorties. He is on his third tour of Operations having carried out two tours in the U.K. with Bomber Command, before volunteering for operations in this theatre. He has carried out 24 S.D. Sorties with this Squadron during the past six months, and as Flight Engineer Leader, has been responsible for the training of new crews in long range flying. F/Lt Morley has personally carried out three Sorties to Malaya of between 18 and 21 hours´ duration, and many other Sorties to Burma, French Indo-China, and Siam. He has shown great keenness and leadership at all times and has been largely responsible for the great success the Squadron has achieved on long range Operations.´ D.F.M. London Gazette 14.9.1943 902708 Sergeant Alfred Arthur Morley No. 161 Squadron The Recommendation, dated 19.7.1943, states ´Sergeant Morley has carried out 21 operational sorties as Flight Engineer. He has at all times displayed exceptional keenness and efficiency and has set a fine example to other N.C.O. aircrew in the squadron.´ Flight Lieutenant Alfred Arthur Morley, D.F.C., D.F.M., born Horely, Surrey, 1907; enlisted Royal Air Force, September 1939; member of the King´s Flight, carrying V.I.P.´s, including the Duke of Kent and King Peter of Yugoslavia, August 1940- February 1942, before it evolved into ´B´ Flight No. 161 (Special Duties) Squadron (Halifaxes), 15.2.1942; he served as Flight Engineer with the latter, March 1942 - October 1944; 161 Squadron was engaged in dropping supplies and agents over occupied Europe, with Morley taking part in fourty-one Special Operations; volunteered for posting with 357 Squadron, Jessore, India (Liberators and Dakotas), January 1945; this squadron was employed along the same lines as 161 Squadron, in picking up agents and supplying Force 136, operating behind Japanese lines in South East Asia; he was Flight Engineer for twenty-four Special Duties Operations over Burma, Malaya, Siam and French Indo-China, including: 25.1.1945, in a Liberator VI piloted by Flight Lieutenant H. Cast, ´This operation was successfully carried out. The aircraft arrived over target at 2135 hrs where there was a reception consisting of a triangle of fires and a torch flashing "H". 3 agents and 11 packages were dropped for "Dilwyn"; 26/27.3.1945, in a Liberator VI piloted by Wing Commander L.M. Hodges, ´a reception was seen at 0012hrs, this consisted of "T" of lights and letter "R" being flashed. 2 agents, 3 containers and 6 packages were dropped from 700 feet´; 1.6.1945, in a Dakota IV piloted Hodges again, ´Successful. After map reading from Mekong River to DZ area, found landing strips with smoke fire, ´N´ in panels and landing ´T´. A/C landed and 2 personnel and 6 containers unloaded. A/C took off with 15 passengers.´ (Operations Record refers). Posted to the King´s Flight, Benson (Vikings), August 1945-April 1947; transferred to Royal Air Force Reserve of Officers, 2.10.1951.
