HONOURS AND AWARDS BESTOWED UPON MONSIEUR MAURICE JACQUES COUVE DE MURVILLE (1907-1999), FRENCH POLITICIAN, PRIME MINISTER, AND DIPLOMAT Monsieur Maurice Couve de Murville was born in Reims, France, 24.1.1907. After the Second World War he served as French Ambassador to Egypt, the United States, and West Germany. In 1958 he was appointed as Minister for Foreign Affairs in de Gaulle´s Government, a post he held for a record ten years. In May 1968 he became Finance Minister, and in July of that year was appointed Prime Minister by President Charles de Gaulle. He resigned in June 1969 with de Gaulle. He was a member of the National Assembly from 1973-1986, serving for a time as its President, before being elected to the Senate. He retired from politics in 1995, and died in Paris on Christmas Eve 1999.
