#9, 1849 1Fr Dark carmine on yellowish, impressive block of eight (4x2), tied to 1852 entire folded letter to Cobija, Bolivia, margins are clear to mostly cut along frames and two light file folds affect all eight stamps though not apparent from the front, block is tied by black lozenge roller cancels, one stamp at left has been cut from the cover, carried by British packet with London ""Paid"" c.d.s., routed through Panama, fine appearance; the removal of the stamp, which was undoubtedly a 40c Orange, is indeed unfortunate as this is an extremely rare quadruple rate paying four times the 2Fr10c transoceanic rate, not only is it rare because of its destination and multiple rate but it has a very valuable franking as this block is valued in Scott at $23,000.00 for just two blocks of four off cover; immensely rare and probably no other example of the quadruple rate exi Estimate US$ 2,000-2,400
