Charles I, group II, Halfcrown, 15.03g., Tower, type 2c, king in armour on taller horse left, plume on horse´s head, cross on housing, rev. draped oval garnished shield, between C R, m.m. portcullis (cf. JGB 316; N.2207; S.2771) a pleasing toned coin, very fine, rare Estimate £ 250-300PROVENANCE: H M Lingford, collection purchased en bloc by Baldwin, 1951 The horseman on this coin is considerably different from the long established 2a-2c types. The figure of the king is taller and slimmer, and leans back in the saddle, and the horse is also taller and more spirited, with a strongly arched neck. The variety appears to be a rare one
