Charles I, Worcester mint, Halfcrown, 12.89g., similar equestrian portrait of king walking left, of cruder linear style, horse with ears pricked forward and bushy tail, no ground below, rev. large crowned square-topped garnished shield, double annulet stops, m.m. helmet on reverse only (JGB 1145 (same dies); Allen C-6; N.2591; S.3101) slightly scuffed on both sides, traces of verdigris on reverse, otherwise good fine, very rare with square shield on reverse Estimate £ 800-1,000This reverse type, with the square-topped shield, is more often found with Allen obverse die B, c.f. JGB 1141 (same rev. die).
