Charles I, Truro mint, Halfcrown, 14.65g., large equestrian portrait of king in armour and spurs, holding sword upright on barrel-chested horse walking left, sash flies out in two loose ends, reads MA BRI FRA ET HIB, rev. oblong garnished shield dividing C R, lis above, inverted semi-colon stops, m.m. rose (JGB 1019A (same dies); Besly G5; N.2539; S.3048), die break at 7 o´clock (as usual for this die) king´s portrait in low relief, otherwise very fine or better, extremely rare Estimate £ 2,000-2,500PROVENANCE: H W Taffs, Glendining, 21 November 1956, lot 226 Dr E Burstal, Glendining, 15 May 1968, lot 457 Glendining, 23 September 1970, lot 688 Spink Numismatic Circular, April 2003, no.HS1244 The design of the horseman on this piece is a smaller version of that on the much commoner Truro crown, Besly A1.
