Charles I, Bristol mint (1643-45), Halfcrown, 14.54g., 1643, Oxford horseman walking left, no ground-line below, Oxford plume below, reads MAG BRIT FR ET HIB, rev. declaration RELIG:PROT.:. LE:AN:LIB:PAR: in two lines, three large crude plumes above, date below, EXVRGAT DEVS DISSIPENTVR INIMICI, double/single pellet stops, four pellets before EXVRGAT, m.m. Oxford plume on obverse only (JGB 885-7 (same obv. die (at Oxford); Morr. A-2; N.2483; S.3003) traces of horn silver on obverse, extensive light scratches on both sides, about fine, the reverse better, extremely rare Estimate £ 300-400Very few Halfcrowns struck at Bristol from this Oxford obverse die (die A) without ground-line and with m.m. Oxford plume (cf. lots 176-7 above), are known. There is no example in the Brooker collection or in SCBI 19 (Bristol Museum), and only one other, Patrick Finn list 18, 2000, no.313 from a different reverse die, has been offered in the last forty years.
