Charles I, Oxford mint, Halfcrown, 13.88g., 1644, Briot horseman walking left, plain ground below, Oxford plume behind, rev. declaration, RELIG:PRO:LE ANG:LIB:PAR, two Oxford plumes and large central plume above, date in script and very small OX below, double/single pellet stops, five pellets before EXVRGAT, m.m. Oxford plume on obverse only (JGB -; Morr. C-16 var.; N.2425; S.2965A) surfaces slightly porous, the obverse struck off-centre on a round flan, good fine, scarce Estimate £ 300-400PROVENANCE: Thames Find, 1995 Baldwin´s Auctions no.14, 13 October 1997, lot 417 There are several similar obverse dies classified as Morr. 1644 C. This coin is from the same die as Beresford-Jones lots 584-5, but differs from those recorded by Morrieson. The reverse is very similar to Morr. 16, but reads LIB rather than LIBER in the declaration.
