Charles I, Nicholas Briot´s coinage, Halfcrown, 15.02g., second milled issue (1638-9), king in armour on horseback left, pebbly ground below, reads BRITANN FR ET HIB, rev. crowned oval garnished shield, with crowned C R at sides, lozenge stops, m.m. anchor and B (JGB 724 (same dies); N.2304; S.2858) very slight adjustment marks on both sides, attractively toned, with hints of underlying golden/blue lustre, almost extremely fine Estimate £ 1,200-1,500PROVENANCE: Purchased M Rasmussen, October 2003
