x Natal 1842 (26 Aug.) entire letter from Cape Town to London, marked "Per John Bagshaw", rated "4" in red and "8" in black, showing straight-line "ship letter" and Crowned "general post office/cape of good hope" oval d.s. The long and interesting letter gives news of hostilities between the British and the Boers in "Natalia", reference to the situation in Natal.."We have had a row with the Boers at Port Natal...When Capt. Smith and about 200 men had arrived...he sent word...that he came to take possession of the...Country in the name of the British Government...his camp was surrounded by nearly 300 men" Estimate £ 500-600
