A converted Sword of the 11th Hussars A fine and extremely rare weapon, with magnificent 311/2 in. (80 cm) blade by henry wilkinson (no serial number), suberbly etched with foliate decoration, VR cypher reversed and intertwined, 8 scrolls inscribed with battle-honours to sevastopol, Sphinx and xi within a strap bearing initials p.a.o.h, ornate gilt crosspiece with fleurs de lys finials and blank tablets in lieu of écussons, ivory scales to grip and gold/crimson cord sword-knot, in a gilt scabbard (traces of white metal beneath) with cruciform bands and squared chape of General Officer´s pattern. Estimate £ 800-1,200It is possible that the blade of an 11th Hussar officer´s levée sword has been re-hilted for use by a county Lord Lieutenant.
