The Most Illustrious Order of St. Patrick, Chancellor´s and Prelate´s Mantle Badge, circa 1840, Cross of St. Patrick on a white background surrounded by the motto and date of the order on an oval ring, with an outer wreath of shamrocks, silver-gilt and enamel, 170mm x 130mm, one star missing from motto, otherwise very fine and rare Estimate £ 1,500-2,000With the change in Statutes to the Order in May 1833, Officers of the Order ceased to wear the Star of the Order on their mantles, replacing it with the Officer´s Mantle Badge. Those worn by the Chancellor and Prelate were identical; that worn by the Registrar was a smaller version of the same design, while those worn by the Secretary and Genealogist omitted the motto, date and wreath of shamrocks.
