A Flank Company Officer´s Sword A fine and unusually late example, with narrow 281/2 in. (72cm) flat-sided blade richly blued and gilt with foliate decoration, trophies, Royal Arms and WIVR cypher, steel stirrup-hilt with knucklebow guard, wire-bound fishskin grip, facetted steel ferrule and backstrap, in its black leather scabbard with steel mounts. Estimate £ 700-1,000It is surprising that a weapon of this type should have been produced at least eight years after the introduction of the 1822 Pattern sword for infantry officers.
