Crime and Punishment Prisons London Fleet: 1728 (23 Jan.) printed four-page Act of Parliament relating solely to the removal of Thomas Bambridge as Warden of the Fleet Prison and ensure he did not ´enjoy the said Office, or any other whatsoever´ – he was a brutal and dishonest man who had ´inherited´ his position from an equally corrupt Warden named Huggins, although why it took an Act of Parliament to remove him remains a mystery; 1789 entire letter from a woman at ´Fleet Market´ and 1827 entire letter (with good strike of the very rare red unframed ´fleet´ Receiving House mark) from a man at ´No. 9 Fleet Market´ - both types of address were used for return mail which disguised the fact it was a prison (the 1827 letter is also headed ´Fleet prison´), also a 1784 entire letter trying to secure the release of ´poor old Gorton´ (he died in Fleet three years later) and a beautiful contemporary engraving of ´Fleet Market, From Holborn Bridge´; a most appealing assembly Estimate £ 350-400
