Crime and Punishment Prisons Cheshire 1845 and 1870 entire letters from debtor prisoners in Chester Castle Gaol, showing handstruck ´d1´ (Paid) and ´2´ (unpaid) respectively, the former with an amusing description of the three different types/sizes of accommodation at the gaol: ´Members of The House of Lords´, ´The Commons´, and ´Small debtors´, the latter (on official prison writing paper with printed heading) from a female prisoner requesting clothing, boots and ´a shawl for my shoulders as I feel very cold´; a fine and attractive pair Estimate £ 200-250
