Crime and Punishment Crimes Ranson 1680 (19 Sept.) letter relating to the Master of the ship ´John & Thomas´ who, en-route to Lisbon had been captured by ´a Sally Man of War´ and was held for a substantial ransom in ´Sally´ (possibly a reference to Salies-de-Bearn near Bayonne); also 1700 (26-30 Sept.) ´The London Gazette´ single sheet newspaper which includes the launch of a benevolent fund to raise the ransom money for ´His Majesty´s Subjects remaining in Captivity at Makaness under the Emperor of Morocco´; some faults.
