A Superb Somme 1916 M.M. Group of Seven to Boer War Casualty and 1914 Veteran Sergeant J. Rogers, Essex Regiment Military Medal, G.V.R. (4490 Sjt: J.Rogers.2/Essex R.); Queen´s South Africa, three clasps, Cape Colony, Driefontein, Transvaal (Pte Essex Regt.); King´s South Africa, two clasps (Pte.); 1914 Star with Bar (Pte 2/Essex R.); British War and Victory Medals (Sjt. Essex R.); Army Long Service & G.C., G.V.R. (Pte. Essex Regt.), edge bruised and details rather worn on South African Medals, otherwise very fine or better (7) Estimate £ 600-800 M.M. London Gazette 11.11.1916 Sergeant John Rogers, M.M., served with No. 3 Section Burma Mounted Infantry in South Africa from 24.1.1900, and was severely wounded near Hartenbosch 8.4.1902; accompanied the 2nd Battalion of his regiment to France 22.8.1914; took part in the battles of the Somme where the 2nd Battalion of his regiment advanced at 8.35am on the 1st July; beaten back by strong enemy counter-attacks the Battalions´ strength at the evenings close of play was 2 officers and 192 other ranks from the morning´s total of 24 officers and 606 men.
