Second Award Bar London Gazette21.10.1916 12461 Private Alfred George Smee, M.M., entered the French Theatre of Operations 30.5.1915; the 9th Battalion was in action in the front line trenches on the Somme on 2.7.1916 and took part in the attack towards Ovillers on the 3rd and the attack on Bayonet Trench on the 18th October; Private Smee was killed in action during the attack on the new British line at Cambrai by six or seven German Divisions 30.11.1917.
