London Gazette 14.1.1943 No. 783525 Lance Sergeant Carl Nelson, Royal Corps of Signals (Blyth, Northumberland) The Recommendation states ´On the night of 24/25 Oct 42, L/Sgt. Nelson of ´B´ Cable Section, 51st Highland Divisional Signals, and Sigmn. Molloy were sent out to repair the field telephone line between TAC HQ 51 Div and HQ 153 Highland Bde. The area in which this line had been laid was being heavily shelled at this time, but in spite of this, L/Sgt. Nelson and Sigmn. Molloy worked hard to carry out repairs on the telephone line which had been badly cut up in many places. L/Sgt. Nelson had managed to get this line repaired and in working order half an hour before the Bde was due to carry out an attack, and this enabled vital messages to be passed. Owing to the importance of this attack, it was essential to keep this telephone line working throughout the night. L/Sgt. Nelson and his assistant stayed out on the line all night under heavy shell fire and succeeded in keeping this line in working order. L/Sgt. Nelson displayed a high example of devotion to duty under heavy shell fire throughout this night.´ M.I.D. London Gazette North West Europe 22.3.1945
